The mission for our platform is to streamline the software development and deployment processes across Invitae. The Core team works as a part of Invitae’s Cloud team to build the and maintain the components and infrastructure that enable the other development teams in the organization to rapidly build scalable and stable software.

The Engineering Manager of the Core team is responsible for leading the engineers that build the solutions to accomplish the mission. They will make effective decisions, create an environment of growth and success within the team, and ensure that the team is aligned to tactical and strategic goals to help our stakeholders and the business at large.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership of a team of software developers to support their delivery, growth, decision making in support of platform and business goals
  • Define the vision of the team in alignment with the platform and the broader organizational strategy
  • Set objectives and holds team accountable for delivering them on time and at quality
  • Introduce and run efficient processes and operational mechanisms that drive outcomes and impact
  • Create coherent designs with multiple systems that interact across system boundaries
  • Provide quality feedback on designs written by other engineers
  • Build healthy partnerships with stakeholders and related teams that rely on the teams
  • Communicate statuses, standards, practices, and results effectively

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; 2 years of leadership experience preferred
  • Good consultative, communication, teammate and analytical skills are a must, as you will be regularly interacting between various teams
  • Experience coaching and mentoring others
  • Self-motivated to remain informed on current and emerging trends and best practices
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced environment with short timelines
  • Understanding of AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, cloud-native development, and containerization architecture and best practices
  • Understanding of DevOps and DevSecOps including current industry leading services and systems
  • Experience leading a fully remote team a plus
